Inspired Landscape

This exhibition is a celebration of the 60 years since the formation of the North York Moors National Park. It’s now open and well worth a visit and runs until 17th July. The five the artists are influenced by living and working in the North York Moors: The artists are:- painters  Peter Hicks, Len Tabner and William Tillyer; photographer Joe Cornish; and ourselves.

We have made a series of seven ‘Ubiquitous Bowls’ each is a ‘Landscape Study’. The works are overlay/cameo and each surface is intricately carved with observations of this beautiful landscape.

“This group of works endeavours to reconcile the contradiction between the romantic illusion of the landscape as a natural wilderness and the obvious evidence of structured management.

Our vessels suggest the marks carved in to the earth through the labor of many hands over time, buring, clearing, carving, dividing and building. Both labour for agriculture and recreation creating the structured functional patterns from the lush grazing lands up to moorland scrub.

Our way of working with glass is about layering, both adding and removing colour.  This physical process lends itself to our interest and observations of the landscape around us, so too does our return to the bowl form as this allow the viewer  the opportunity to change their ‘perspective’ of the ‘landscape’.

The book, the film the discussions !

The May exhibition at the National Parks visitor centre, Danby, is accompanied by a book, a film and two discussion events. Info about these two discussions below. If you want any more info, please contact the National Parks directly.

Baldwin Guggisberg – Beyond Glass

The exhibition is beautiful and clearly shows their journey in every respect. On until 27th March 2012, if you find yourself in Geneva its is well worth the visit. The Book that accompanies the exhibition too is beautiful and worth adding a ‘glass books’ collection. On 24th November Philip & Monica will be at the Museum to talk about the work, more details here. Philip & Monica were the inspiring people to work for and we owe them a debt of gratitude.

The Exhibition

The Shooting Star CHASE exhibition, which encompasses contemporary painting, sculpture and glass, has been going for ten years and raises, in one evening, up to UKP100,000 for Shooting Star CHASE. The exhibition takes place in the ground floor gallery of the Royal College of Art in London (Kensington Gore, next to the Albert Hall). It is on the evening of Thursday 10th November (starting at 7pm). Tickets are £65 which includes  champagne and canapés.

This is a great opportunity to buy art from leading contemporary British artists, both representational and abstract. Prices range from £100 to £5,000+. The artists receive the normal price for their work and Shooting Star CHASE receives the “gallery” commission.
