Gillies Jones Glass

The patterns we make on the sand carved bowls are representations of our daily interaction with our beautiful North Yorkshire surroundings. A recurring theme is the repetitive power of a single leaf-form, which covers a bowl or clothes an entire tree.

The sand carved patterns are created by eroding the inside surface of each piece. By selectively removing a layer of colour, the clear glass is revealed.

This meticulous, time consuming process takes a great deal of patience and leaves textured patterns on the inside of the glass. These allow light to animate the bowl, and to cast and reflect beautiful coloured shadows when strongly illuminated.
