Stephen has been filling the place with wood smoke, making some beautiful bowls, plates and pebble shapes in preparation for our forthcoming studio exhibition.
I have started work on many of the pieces and still awaiting a few to return from the cutters after the punty has been ground. (This gives each piece a safe flat base to sit on)
The cooler weather has been a blessing for our us glassmakers and the lads have been enjoying themsleves in the hot shop.
We make glass up to the end of June each year and then turn the furnace off for July & August for maintenance. Usually, the weather makes the life of a glassmaker uncomfortable in high summer, though, of course, who knows what will happen this year.
We re-light the furnace and start to make glass again early September, just as the weather starts to turn.
The glassmaking usually takes place Monday – Thursday, though of course, being a small studio, these hours can change.
